Dear Professor, Rodwell,
The word Architecture can have many different definitions, depending on the person. To me architecture is something more than design, in many ways, it’s a new way of living and seeing the world as well. When first starting architecture school, the definition of becoming an architect was just the idea of design and construction. Yet as time passes I have found that it is much more, it’s the idea of life and how we help create and form human experiences.
There are many things we do not know. For myself, despite not knowing, I have a desire to create a new way of life for people who may not be able to provide that for themselves. As I continue to learn more about the impact that an architect can have, one starts to think that one can be the change that is needed to help not just New York, but many all over the world. Through the process of learning about other fields, not just architecture, the overlapping of different careers is something that can be seen frequently. Which make me think that to be a true architect one needs to be more than just an architect, one has to have an understanding of all of the different parts both physically, as in the process of constructing, as well as the mental, the emotional and visual of the creation. In the future, I do want to create something for those who don’t have much. Nevertheless, what is important is the present and for now, my goal is to learn the different parts that are needed not only to become an architect but think like one as well. More in-depth I strive to become a person who can take all of this and not just make it part of my profession, but my life as well, even in day to day activities. Through this, I hope to change not just others life as in the future, but the field entirely. It can be the starting place for problem-solving, such as economical portable living or even just living. In problems like this an architect can be the start of the solution, even the whole solution for people and create more than what’s needed.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Guayllazaca
