Lab Report Analysis

Lab reports alone are not easy to find, that was one of my many difficulties they were either not easily understood or they were not true report themselves. In my major lab report are not necessary, furthermore, we don’t even do lab reports or labs. This is the first time writing and learning about a lab report through this I learned that the process itself is not easy and the level of difficulty can vary greatly.

Starting off with the process I took towards writing this analysis, I first started by looking into the report themselves, I first investigated the different rhetorical analyses that can come from the reports. Overall, I found that they were very similar in structure, but one thing that caught my eye was the use of jargon and the different levels of explanation that was used to explain them to the reader. I read these and started to think of how I can explain this in my writing without sounding as if it was all a summary. I decided to just first summarizing each report and then moving into the jargon and the audience that was specific to each report and analyzing them. Summarizing was I believe the most difficult part, I asked myself how I can convey the essence of these reports into my writing without sounding too oversimplified or to over-explain. I just choose on writing what was the summary in as many few words as possible, then I would condense it even more.

After getting feedback from my peers, I realized that I may of just oversimplified the reports, I realized that the summary was from a standpoint of a person who had read it and knew prior knowledge, rather than a person who didn’t know what it was about at all. I also realized that I missed a very important step in the whole writing process which is the rhetorical analysis of the structure of the whole report, not just the other aspects. I realized that while planning I didn’t refer to the requirements of the writing assignment. From my last writing assignment, I think I’ve improved in organizing my thoughts a bit better which is connected to the Course Learning Outcomes, I’ve improved in enhancing “strategies for reading, drafting, revising, editing, and self-assessment” but still need work on revising in not just my writing for there were also many filler words, but also the different requirements of the writing, and referring back to them to make sure I’ve covered all the points needed.
